Description: Number 27 squadron was active from 1915. It was comprised of Martinsyde Elephant, Airco DH.4 and Airco DH.5 aircraft. They took part in the following battles: the battle of the Somme, the battle of Arras, the third battle of Ypres, also known as Passchendaele, the battle of Cambrai, and the second battle of the Somme (1918).
World War Two
Description: The number 27 squadron was comprised of Westland Wapiti, Hawker Hart, De Havilland Tiger Moth, Bristol Blenheim, Bristol Beaufighter, De Havilland Mosquito aircraft. They were mostly involved Far East operations, with fighting in Burma proving too problematic for the Mosquitoes. They were subsequently transferred to No. 680 Squadron.
