World War One

Description: Initally part of the Royal Flying Corps, the number 24 (No.XXIV) squadron was active from 1915. It was comprised of Airco DH.2, Airco DH.5 and Royal Aircraft Factory SE.5A aircraft. The squadron amassed a total of 200 enemy aircraft shot down. They took part in the following battles: the battle of Messines, the battle of Cambrai, the battle of the Somme, the second battle of the Somme (1918), and the Hindenburg Line.

World War Two

Description: The number 24 squadron was comprised of Avro York and Douglas Dakota focusing on transport duties, especially for short-range VIP duties. This followed the break-up of the squadron as it had become too large. Internal communications became No. 510 Squadron, and long-range transport became No. 512 Squadron.
