World War One
Description: Initally part of the Royal Flying Corps, the number 19 (No. XIX) squadron was active from 1915. It comprised of Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.12, Spad and Sopwith Dolphin aircraft. They took part in the following battles: the battle of the Somme, the battle of Arras, the 3rd battle of Ypres, the battle of Lys, and the Hindenburg Line.
World War Two
Description: The number 19 squadron was comprised of Supermarine Spitfire aircraft, and took part in the Battle of Britain. With the German plan to invade Britain, the only thing that stood in their way was the Royal Air Force. During the middle of 1940 just a few hundred pilots managed to hold off the Luftwaffe and allow Britain and her allies to go on the offensive. They formed part of No. 12 Group RAF. They later flew Mustangs. The No. 19 squadron were also involved in the Dunkirk evacuations, the Normandy landings, part of Operation Overlord, and the battle of Arnhem, also known as Operation Market Garden.
